The Pre-Professional Ballet Training program at JSSB is designed to help students excel, not just in ballet, but in life. This program asks a lot of the dancer, but gives so much in return. Students at this level of training will learn the deep joy and fulfillment of time management, teamwork, dedication, loyalty, and commitment. Fine attributes for professional dancers and successful people. All of this is accomplished with enjoyment of moving and the artistic fulfillment of dancing.

Students will continue to build on the foundation of technique that is so important to dance, with ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, and character classes to give them well rounded training. Dancers take all classes in their level. This work prepares the student to dance and succeed in all genres of ballet, classical, and contemporary, theater dance, Television, Musical Theater,Film and Stage. It also prepares the conscientious student for working in related fields, such as teaching, directing, choreographing and behind-the-scenes work in theater.

Ballet is more than just knowing how to dance — it’s knowing how to perform. Gaining the experience of performing in front of live audiences is incredibly important to anyone who wishes to dance beyond high school. Students of JSSB are given the opportunity to perform with the Company in classical ballets as well as a truly eclectic mixed repertoire. Students in Creative Dance II and up may audition for the annual Svalander Company Nutcracker Ballet performed at the Woodstock Opera House each December. Please see the calendar.
