PERFORMANCES
The Judith Svalander Dance Theatre (JSDT), based in Crystal Lake, was founded in 1979 by Judith Svalander and has grown out of the pre-professional level dance program at JSSB. Each year, the JSDT performs the Nutcracker and a spring showcase as the resident dance company at the Woodstock Opera House. The Company performs throughout the area in lecture-demonstrations, dance festivals and concerts, giving these advanced dancers important time with professionals and allowing them to feel what a career in dance is like.
Judith Svalander’s wide range of personal performing experience in America and Europe has resulted in choreography of diverse styles including classical ballet, character pieces, jazz, drama, musical theatre, and modern ballet works. Along with Assistant Director, Julie Fiore-Hirsch, and our outstanding faculty and guest artists, these performances are a unique preparation for not only classical ballet, but work in all fields related to dance.
